“Would Ganguly Have Shown Up with Christmas Gifts for Waugh”: O’Keefe accuses Pakistan of being too amicable with Australia

Kerry O’Keefe, a former Australian cricket player, poked fun at the Pakistani team’s Christmas Day gesture towards their rivals. During their indoor practice at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the Australian squad was visited by visiting captain Shan Masood, Babar Azam, and a few members of the Pakistani team management. They brought presents for everyone. Players from the two teams engaged with the children, giving out candy to them.

Australia captain Pat Cummins loved the gesture and could not stop complimenting the effort.

That was excellent. Just lollipops and happy holidays for the youngsters. That was fantastic, then. Our connections with the Pakistani side are excellent. That trip from a few years back was also really amazing. It was really kind and generous of them to think of us, Cummins said.

O’Keefe, however, didn’t seem to be happy with the Pakistanis’ gesture. Former England captain Michael Vaughan said, “A visiting team cannot play against the Aussies ‘in best of the spirits’” during an interview on Fox Cricket.

“We are playing this Test series with the utmost sincerity. Australia’s performance in the best of moods is unmatched. Yesterday, they handed them Christmas gifts,” O’Keefe said.

“Had Sourav Ganguly shown up with gifts for Steve Waugh for Christmas?”

Not at all. You have to play the Aussies with a lot of intensity. You must possess a backbone. “This is too enjoyable,” O’Keefe said.

Vaughan said, “You can’t bring Christmas presents.”

“…and then launching half-volleys to start Boxing Day,” O’Keefe said.

An outstanding beginning for Australia

Australia was chosen to bat first on Tuesday, and they got off to a respectable start. Agha Salman upset David Warner for 38 runs after the two batsmen put up a 90-run partnership on the first wicket.

After that, Khawaja teamed up with Marnus Labuschagne to extend the score by a further eighteen runs. Salman struck once again during the post-lunch session, taking Khawaja out for 42.

Return of Rizwan to the mix

After winning the toss, Pakistani captain Shan Masood decided to bowl. They made three changes: Hasan Ali and Mir Hamza, both fast bowlers, were selected, while Mohammad Rizwan took over as wicketkeeper in place of Sarfaraz Ahmed.
