“Girls Will Be Girls,” Ali Fazal-Richa Chadha’s first film, will have its Sundance Film Festival debut in 2024

<p>“Girls Will Be Girls” is one of the fortunate 16 films that have been chosen to participate at Sundance, an impressive accomplishment that puts it in the exclusive category of Indian narrative movies to get this kind of attention. The story, which is helmed by Shuchi Talati, takes place at a boarding school tucked away in a little Indian village in the Himalayas.</p>
<p>It follows the journey of 16-year-old Mira, whose mother’s unfulfilled coming-of-age experiences are intertwined with her own rebellious emergence. Produced by Pushing Buttons Studios, which Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal founded in March 2021, the movie is their first motion picture venture. Renowned Malayalam actress Kani Kusruti, Jitin Gulati, and rookies Preeti Panigrahi and Kesav Binoy Kiron play key parts in the cast.</p>

<p>The movie is a co-production between France’s Dolce Vita Films, Crawling Angel Films, and Pushing Buttons Studios. It is an Indo-French production. “Girls Will Be Girls” has already won several awards and accolades throughout the world, including the VFF Talent Highlight Award, the Arte Kino Prize, and the Cinema Du Monde. In 2022, it was called the Berlinale Talents Project Market.</p>
