Why Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan never collaborated again after Namak Haraam

Share

Two Bollywood actors’ friendship often produces magical results on film. One such celebrity couple was Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan. In blockbuster movies like Anand and Namak Haraam, these two renowned actors mesmerized the audience with their exceptional on-screen chemistry. Their fans clamoured for additional films featuring the pair together, but rumor has it that there were ego conflicts between them when Namak Haraam was being shot. They were never seen together again because of this. Let’s examine the situation in detail.

Anand, a 1971 movie starring Rajesh Khanna, remains a popular choice for millions of people. Amitabh Bachchan, who portrayed Dr. Bhaskar in this movie, rose to fame as a result. Rajesh Khanna was already well-known at that point. Hrishikesh Mukherjee directed the movie Anand. In his 1973 picture Namak Haraam, he recycled the popular duo. The film was a tremendous success as well, however during production, the dynamics of Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan’s friendship shifted. Amitabh Bachchan was becoming more well-known at the time Namak Haraam was being made, while Rajesh Khanna’s star power was waning.<img decoding=”async” loading=”lazy” class=”alignnone wp-image-92809″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/theindiaprint.com-amitabh-bachchan-practices-for-kaun-banega-crorepati-15-and-posts-set-photos-download-2023-07-24t182419.641.jpg” alt=”” width=”1330″ height=”752″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/theindiaprint.com-amitabh-bachchan-practices-for-kaun-banega-crorepati-15-and-posts-set-photos-download-2023-07-24t182419.641.jpg 299w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/theindiaprint.com-amitabh-bachchan-practices-for-kaun-banega-crorepati-15-and-posts-set-photos-download-2023-07-24t182419.641-150×85.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1330px) 100vw, 1330px” />

According to rumors, Hrishikesh Mukherjee had another finale in mind for the film, one where Amitabh Bachchan’s character would suffer a horrible end. As soon as Rajesh Khanna was made aware of this, he put pressure on the director to change the climax and his part. Rajesh Khanna said that the character who dies in the climax tends to get more attention from the audience. As a result, he insisted on altering the conclusion, which infuriated Amitabh Bachchan.

Hrishikesh Mukherjee consented to make yet another change to the screenplay, which led to Rajesh Khanna’s character finally dying in the end, in order to preserve unity and keep Amitabh Bachchan happy. The persona of Amitabh Bachchan wants vengeance for Rajesh Khanna’s death. Amitabh’s character became more well-known when Namak Haraam came out, overshadowing Rajesh Khanna’s part. According to reports, Rajesh Khanna was upset by this and vowed never to work with Amitabh again.
